Fishing across three generations

The Huhtikkala family has been fishing on Lake Näsijärvi for nearly 50 years. Today, father Petri, his wife Lucyna, and their son Emil continue a tradition that began back in 1979. The family speaks Finnish, English, Polish, and French, ensuring that international guests feel truly welcome.

Petri Huhti
serves as the host, ensuring a smooth, safe, and relaxed experience throughout the day.

Lucyna Huhti
prepares the evening meal from the freshly caught fish and creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

This is where it all began in 1979 — the first shared winter nets laid on the ice of Lake Näsijärvi.
The tradition lives on in new hands, with winter nets still set on the very same lake.
Pure joy on the ice from the third generation.
The youngest fisher is growing up, and the family’s fishing heritage continues.

Our Guests’ Experiences

Jurek
Poland

The winter fishing experience was much more than just ice fishing – it was a true deep dive into an authentic way of catching delicious fish from an exceptionally clean lake. Fishing became even more meaningful when we learned that dinner would be prepared from the day’s catch.
Before dinner, the evening followed a completely Finnish tradition: a hot sauna and a dip in the icy lake.

After that, Lucyna prepared an incredible dinner for us. There was a wide variety of appetizers, a delicious warm soup, and of course, as the main course, fresh fish that we had caught ourselves from the lake just a few hours earlier. Excellent and highly recommended!

Even though I didn’t know much about winter fishing beforehand, after this trip I can say that this fishing family respects authentic winter fishing methods and is proudly—but in a healthy and humble way—committed to them.
The Huhtikkala team was extremely well organized when it came to this authentic fishing trip. Everything ran on schedule with positive humor, and our family’s needs were always at the center of attention. A special highlight was the campfire on the island, where we enjoyed hot drinks and sausages – it helped us forget the freezing cold, which reached −12 °C.

Thank you for everything, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much!
